In conversation with ETimes, we asked Soni of the possibility of an Indian Deadpool possibly existing in the multiverse, considering that he plays Indian Spider-Man in the Oscar-nominated animated feature ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’.
“I hadn’t even thought about Indian Deadpool, that would be so good. Yeah. I mean, I think that would be amazing. I would happy, if they were like, ‘Do you want to just do that?'” Soni said.
Soni plays another important Indian character in the extended Marvel Universe. The actor has lent his voice to Indian Spider-Man, Pavitr Prabhakar in the critically acclaimed animated film ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’. Sharing his thoughts on the unique bond between Deadpool and Spider-Man in the comic books, the actor expressed his hope for the dynamic duo to eventually make their way to the big screen.
Sharing his thoughts about a possible multiverse team-up with Deadpool and Spider-Man, Karan said, “I think at some point, for sure…”
He added, “Deadpool and Spider-Man have such a special relationship in the comics. It will be used at some point in one of the movies. It would be amazing.”
Sharing a little BTS detail from the sets, he revealed, “You know, when we were shooting, ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, Ryan had gone with Sean, the director, to see ‘Across The Spider-Verse’ and they loved it! They talked a lot about it and were very kind about it, so they’re definitely aware of all of that stuff.”
“So, you know, maybe sometime in the future that will happen,” he said.
Regarding his future in the superhero genre, Karan confirmed that while he doesn’t know much about upcoming projects within the Deadpool franchise, he is set to continue his work with the Spider-Man franchise with his return as the Indian alternate version of Spider-Man in ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse‘.
Excited to begin recording for the film, which he described as a ‘deep and lengthy’ production process, Soni said, “I’m continuing on for Spider-Man. We’re going to start recording for that one in a few months which I’m so excited about. That movie is deep in production. It’s animation, so it’s different and takes a long time. We’ll see when it’s ready and when it ends up coming out, but, I’m really excited. That was one of the biggest joys to get to play that character. So I’m excited to get another chance and to do it again.”
Noting how much he fell in love with the character of Spider-Man while working on the film, he also reflected on the emotional impact that the comic book hero has on young audiences, particularly children. He said, “What’s been really emotional is people really love that character. Not just my version, but Spider-Man. Obviously, I was a fan of it when I was a kid, but it is cool to be a part of something that affects young people that much and moves them because that’s the purest reaction you’ll ever get. So I feel lucky to be asked back to do a little bit more of that.”
