Sanford Stakes at Saratoga Race Course
Las Vegas, NV – The Grade 2 Sanford Stakes comes our way this Sunday, July 22nd from
Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. Two year olds will be featured on Saratoga’s main
track as the females dash six furlongs for a $200,000 purse.
A field of nine juveniles has been entered for the Sanford including two promising Todd
Pletcher colts. Both are eligible for $100,000 bonus as a two year old maiden winner at Belmont
Park or Aqueduct that goes on to win a graded stakes race at a NYRA track in 2012. The race goes as
race 9 on Saratoga’s Sunday card with a post time of 5:20 PM. Here is a look at all nine entries
and their recent ahead of this Grade 2 event.
Rose Junction – Todd Pletcher colt that led the whole way and broke maiden in his
only career start by three lengths at Belmont on June 8th. He will have Javier Castellano in the
saddle and is the morning line favorite for the Sanford.
Handsome Jack – Wesley Ward colt has three career starts under his belt. After a
fifth in his career debut, Handsome Jack broke maiden in his second start at Churchill Downs
before finishing second last time out to Shanghai Bobby in the Track Barron Stakes at Belmont
on June 27th.
Bern Identity – is trained by Kelly Breen and after a second place finish in his first
race, he won last time out by a stunning 13 ¾ lengths at Belmont on June 1 st. Bern Identity is
the co-second choice for the Sanford.
Onetwentyeight – is the other Todd Pletcher entry and is the half brother to stakes
winner Tackleberry. He also won his first and only career start – at Belmont on June 28 th in
wire-to-wire fashion.
John Gordon – Dale Romans trained colt is one of the most experienced racer in the
field with three career starts. After a pair of seconds in his first two career starts, John Gordon
broke maiden last time out at Churchill Downs on June 22nd.
Brave Dave – was a wire-to-wore winner in his debut at Calder on June 30 th for
trainer Edward Plesa.

Special Joe – broke maiden in his career debut at Churchill Downs on May 25 th and
then went on to represent himself very well in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor Stakes on that
same track a month later finishing third for legendary trainer Steve Asmussen.
Hightail – has three career starts with just one third place finish. Last time out was a
fourth in the Grade 3 Bashford Manor – right behind Special Joe.
Good Tickled – broke maiden in his second career start at Churchill Downs on May
18th and then went on to a fifth last time out in the Bashford Manor where he failed to place for
the first time in three career starts.
