IPL 2024: Impressive Riyan Parag rises in uncapped batters’ list | Cricket News – Times of India



NEW DELHI: In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), batter Riyan Parag of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) is up to number three on the record of uncapped players with the most runs in a single season.
Parag amassed a crucial 36 in 26 balls during the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Ahmedabad on Wednesday, including two fours and two sixes. His runs were scored at a 138.46 strike rate.
Parag has scored 567 runs this season with a strike rate of 151.60 and an average of 56.70.This season, he has scored four half-centuries, his highest being 84*. He has scored the third-most runs this season.
Yashasvi Jaiswal of RR scored 625 runs in 14 games at an average of 48.07 and a strike rate of 163.61 in the 2023 season, setting a record for most runs by an uncapped batsman in an IPL season. He scored a century and five fifties, with a career-best score of 124.
Australian batsman Shaun Marsh, who was uncapped in 2008, ranks second with 616 runs scored in 11 matches at an average of 68.44 and a strike rate of 139.68, including five fifty-scores and a century. His highest score was 115.
Parag leads the Royals most runs scored in a season. Jos Buttler set a record in 2022 by scoring the most runs in a single season by a right-hander (RR) hitter with 863 runs in 17 games at an average of 57.53 and a strike rate of 149.05, including four hundreds and four fifties. His highest score was 116. With 625 runs in the 2023 season, Jaiswal holds the second position.
In an IPL season, Parag also holds the record for most runs scored by a batter batting fourth or lower. The top player is Rishabh Pant of the Delhi Capitals (DC), who amassed 579 runs while batting in the middle order during the 2018 season. During the season, he scored 684 runs in 14 games with an average of 52.61 and a strike percentage of 173.60. During that season, he amassed five fifties and a century. Pant scored 105 runs in three innings that season batting at number three.
The Royals will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 2 on Friday in Chennai to decide who plays Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final on Sunday.
