Afghanistan defended their total of 148 runs by wrapping the Aussie chase for 127 runs and star player Rashid Khan took to social media to express his delight with the statement performance.
“Unbelievable things happen if you believe! A win we are all going to be proud of, this is for all of you who believe in us,” the Afghan star spinner posted.
Australian batter Usman Khawaja lauded the Afghan unit on their memorable triumph as he posted, “Well done Brother. Better team on the day. You boys are an inspiration for so many back home and abroad. So sad we can’t see you all play in Australia.”

Australia won the toss and asked Afghanistan to bat first as Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadean notched up half-centuries each to take Afghan to the fighting total.
Pat Cummins picked up a three-fer and was ably supported by spinner Zampa, who claimed two Afghan batters.
Afghanistan came out to bowl with intent in the second half and were rewarded for their courage as they dismantled Australia’s batting order by removing one batter after the other.
Gulbadin Naib was the star of the show with the ball for the victors as he ended the day with a four-wicket haul, while Naveen-ul-Haq scalped three wickets of his own. Azmatullah Omarza, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid picked up a wicket each to bundle out the Aussies 21 runs short of the target to claim a historic win and boost their chances to make the semifinal of the ICC showpiece.
