Europe’s top budget-friendly destination that sets you back less than £700 for five nights named
Frankfurt has emerged as Europe’s most budget-friendly destination for families during the October half-term break, according to new data.
The German city tops the list with a total cost of just £656 for a family of four, including flights and accommodation for a five-day stay.
Krakow and Budapest follow closely in second and third, offering affordable getaways for under £750.
The study, led by travel experts at Disneyland Tickets, analysed costs for trips from October 28 to November 1 that were departing from London.

Frankfurt’s appeal extends beyond its affordability, with numerous child-friendly attractions such as the historic old town, River Main boat trips, and Frankfurt Zoo.
Krakow, Poland, ranks as the second most affordable destination, with a total cost of £723.72 for a family of four. This includes £259.72 for four nights in an Airbnb and £464 for return flights.
Budapest, Hungary, follows closely in third place at £724.88. Families can enjoy a four-night Airbnb stay for just £252.88, with return flights costing £472.
Eastern European cities tend to offer excellent value for money, allowing families to explore rich cultural heritage and unique attractions without breaking the bank.
Venice surprisingly ranks as the fourth most affordable destination, with a total trip cost of £968.92 for a family of four. This includes £512.92 for a four-night Airbnb stay and £456 for return flights.
Bergen, Norway, secures the fifth spot at £1,013.68. Families can enjoy the city’s stunning fjords for £553.68 in Airbnb costs and £460 for flights.
Both cities offer unique experiences at relatively reasonable prices. Venice’s famous canals may be less crowded in late October, making them ideal for family exploration.
Bergen’s natural beauty provides an excellent backdrop for a family holiday, with its affordability making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travellers.
At the other end of the spectrum, Reykjavik and Athens emerge as the most expensive destinations for families this half-term. The Icelandic capital tops the list at £1,982 for a family of four, whilst Athens follows at £1,634.

Commenting on the findings, travel expert from Tours & Tickets at Disneyland Tickets, Magdalena Petrusic, said: “This data shows that there are still plenty of options for families looking to travel during half-term without spending too much – and they avoid the penalty of up to £160 for taking kids out of school during term time.
“Frankfurt is an excellent choice for those on a budget and can be a gateway to exploring the rest of Germany. As a half-term destination, Germany has so much to offer families—fairytale castles, theme parks, and plenty of cultural experiences.
“October also falls into the shoulder season for many European destinations despite a rise in demand during the half-term, and it may be the last chance to grab some sun before winter.
“The milder temperatures are often preferrable for young children too as opposed to facing sweltering heat abroad, so it’s a great time to get away.”
