Gaikwad got to finish off the game in style with a slashing four through the off-side with none other than the ultimate finisher MS Dhoni on the other end, looking on.

Could it be any more perfect for Ruturaj Gaikwad today? An all-round performance from his team, and a captain’s knock from himself, all capped off with a momentary stand with his old skipper, the talisman Mahendra Singh Dhoni, in a moment of the passing of the torch as CSK clinched their third win of the season.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad seemed in fine form as he finally mustered up a captain’s knock to post up his first fifty of this season and one as CSK captain.

And Gaikwad got to finish off the game in style with a slashing four through the off-side with none other than the ultimate finisher MS Dhoni on the other end, looking on.

It would have been all too familiar for Gaikwad, who scored his first IPL fifty with the legendary keeper at the crease with him.

“It was a little nostalgic for me. During my first IPL fifty, it was a similar situation, Mahi bhai was with me and we finished the match. The wicket was slightly tricky, and I didn’t want to put the side under pressure,” recalled Gaikwad in a post-match interview.

“With this team I don’t need to tell anything to anyone. In T20, sometimes you need little bit of luck to get going.”

And he sure did get going as the skipper scored a fine 67* to slowly yet steadily lead his team to victory.

After a strong start, thanks to the likes of Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Ravindra Jadeja came in with his off-spinners to turn the tide around as he scalped both batters in quick succession.

CSK then completely neutralised any form of retort from KKR, and held them to a meagre 137 runs after 17 overs.

The 7-wicket win for Chennai Super Kings helps them to secure their spot at 4th place for now as they take the lead over SRH, having played one extra game.
