Last season Yash Dayal, while representing GT, was clubbed for five sixes in a row by Rinku Singh but on Saturday, he redeemed himself by bowling RCB into IPL playoffs.
During IPL 2023, Rinku Singh blasted five sixes in a row off the bowling of Yash Dayal to propel Kolkata Knight Riders to an unlikely win as they overhauled the target of 205 against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad.
KKR needed 29 runs off the final over of that match with three wickets remaining and a single off the first delivery of the 20th over gave Rinku the strike and what he did later is history. That innings made the young batter from Uttar Pradesh an IPL star.
However, there was gloom in GT camp following that heartbreaking defeat. And Dayal bore the brunt of it as he reportedly fell ill, lost weight – all while trying to overcome the nightmare against KKR.
He was eventually released by GT ahead of IPL mini auction last December.
However, GT did bid for him at the auction in Dubai but Royal Challengers Bengaluru had their eyes set on the left-arm pacer and they signed him for Rs 5 crore.

On Saturday, Dayal bowled a memorable last over in which he not only dismissed MS Dhoni but also ensured CSK didn’t get to 201 – a total that would have ensured the defending champions’ net run-rate stays above RCB to help them seal a playoff spot.
Dayal conceded seven runs in the over and accounted for Dhoni as well as RCB completed a dramatic turnaround to sneak into IPL 2024 playoffs as the fourth team.
Rinku too celebrated his Uttar Pradesh teammate Dayal’s redemption arc, calling it god’s plan.
‘God’s plan baby,’ wrote Rinku on his Instagram stories with the accompanied by the picture of Dayal celebrating in RCB colours.
RCB have joined KKR, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 playoffs.
With 19 points from 13 matches, former champions KKR are ensured of a top-of-the-table finish while there’s a fight between RR (16 points) and SRH (15 points) for the second spot now.
The team finishing among the top-two gets two shots at making it to the IPL final.
SRH will take on PBKS today in an afternoon match followed by RR squaring off against KKR later tonight.
