The Kansas City Chiefs postponed their practice on Thursday, June 6, after defensive lineman BJ Thompson experienced a medical emergency.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Thompson, 25, suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a meeting at the Chiefs’ facility in Kansas City. The team’s medical staff immediately responded, and Thompson was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The team’s media availability, originally scheduled for Thursday, has been moved to Friday. The Chiefs are currently in offseason practices, with their mandatory minicamp set to begin on June 11. Thompson, drafted in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, has played in one game for the team.
This incident adds to the Chiefs’ dramatic offseason following their 2024 Super Bowl win. Defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs faces accusations of second-degree animal cruelty, and wide receiver Rashee Rice recently turned himself in to Texas police for a multi-car collision. Additionally, kicker Harrison Butker faced backlash for a controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College.
