‘For India to Win the World Cup…’: Anil Kumble Expects Jasprit Bumrah to Play a Crucial Role in India’s T20WC Campaign – News18

India’s go-to pacer, Jasprit Bumrah continues to showcase his class with the ball which is a cut above the rest of the competition as he helped his side script an immense comeback victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 clash that took place in New York on Sunday.

Speaking about Bumrah’s performance was none other than the legendary Indian leg-spinner, Anil Kumble who hailed his performance against the rivals which allowed the Indian team to get the win.

“We saw that with that 15th over where he got that wicket (of Mohammad Rizwan), and then the 19th over when you knew that in that over if he had given a couple of boundaries, then last over 10 runs, 12 runs, possible,” Kumble said on ESPNCricinfo.

Kumble even made a bold prediction that if the Indian team led by Rohit Sharma were to go all the way and take home the title, then Bumrah would have to play a major role in that to end their long-standing title drought.

“But once it gets to that 18 runs, 19 runs, on a surface like this, (it’s) impossible for the tail-enders to come and get those runs. So Jasprit Bumrah, if India go on to win this tournament, he would have to play a major role,” Kumble said.

Kumble reckons that the Indian pacer should be the first name on the team sheet for his ability to put pressure on the batters and deliver the kind of performances he delivers regularly.

“Jasprit Bumrah should be your number one in your team list. Forget about the format, Jasprit Bumrah is your number one. Yes, this is a pitch where it was not easy for the bowlers but the variations and also the kind of pressure he puts on the batters…” Kumble said.

Conditions have proven to not be an obstacle for Bumrah as he has been able to deliver similar performances on flatter tracks which makes him an indispensable asset for the Indian team and they will hope that the fast bowler can continue to deliver in the big moments for the rest of the tournament.

“Knowing that it’s not going to be easy, forget the surface, any surface, we have seen that right throughout his career, it’s not easy. Any batter coming in front of Bumrah knows that it’s going to be tough, and on a surface like this, he just builds the pressure,” he concluded.
