Suryakumar Yadav may not have contributed much with the bat but he did take an excellent diving catch at first slip to get rid of Babar Azam.
India star Suryakumar Yadav took an excellent, well-timed diving catch at first slip to help get rid of Pakistan captain Babar Azam during their T20 World Cup 2024 meeting in New York on Sunday.
Chasing a below-par total of 120, Babar along with Mohammad Rizwan seemed to have given Pakistan a decent start. India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah then left Babar in two minds with a back of a length delivery, drawing a thick outside edge.

With the ball dying on him, Suryakumar timed his dive perfectly and just about managed to get hold of the ball giving India their first breakthrough of the match. The decision though was referred to the TV umpire to check if the catch was taken cleanly.
Babar scored 13 off 10 with the help of two fours before making his way back the dug-out.
That Pakistan were left chasing a low total was thanks to a superb performance of their fast bowling duo of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. They took three wickets each as India were bowled out for 119 in 19 overs.
Babar won the toss and opted to bowl first hoping to make the best use of the moisture in the pitch and overcast conditions.
India did lose both their openers cheaply but Rishabh Pant led a quick revival to lift his team from 19/2 to 58/2 and then 89/3. However, in the second half of the innings, India suffered an epic collapse losing their last seven wickets for the addition of mere 30 runs.
For India, Pant top-scored with 42 off 31 with the help of six fours while Axar Patel’s 20 off 18 was the next best. Two India batters failed to open their accounts while six registered scores in single digit.
India defeated Ireland to begin their T20 World Cup campaign while Pakistan suffered a stunning defeat to USA in their tournament opener.
