India’s final Group A fixture against Canada turned into a damp squib with match abandoned due to wet outfield.
India and Canada will have to wait for some more time before squaring off at the international level after their 2024 T20 World Cup Group A match in Florida was called-off due to a wet outfield on Saturday. The teams received a point each as a result of the abandoned game.
The toss for the inconsequential contest was delayed by half-an-hour before the match officials conducted their first inspection (8 PM IST) which gave way to another one an hour later. While the rain stayed away, there were several damp patches on the outfield which needed to be dried to ensure the surface was firm.
The groundstaff kept working on the wet patches but after their second inspection at 9 PM IST, they concluded conditions aren’t suitable for the match to go ahead and it was called off without toss.
