Team India star batter Virat Kohli was dismissed for 9 runs in the second semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana against defending champions England on Thursday.

English pacer Reece Topley castled the Indian batter as he looked to slog a ball over the boundary, but ended up missing the ball completely as the leather clipped the top of the leg stump.

The semis clash was delayed by over an hour due to inclement weather as showers in the Caribbean forced the toss and the game to be pushed beyond the scheduled start time.

Holders England would have had their fingers crossed in hopes of the match getting underway as a washed-out fixture would have meant that India would move into the final of the tournament and the English prayers were answered when the skies cleared up and the sun came out.

The drainage system did its task well and the officials deemed it fit to get the match underway after the toss, which took place at 8:50 PM IST, also over an hour from the original schedule.

England won the toss and skipper Jos Buttler opted to field first as India opened the innings with captain Rohit Sharma and Kohli, who put up a 19-run stand for the first wicket before Kohli fell.

Rishabh Pant came on to replace his fallen teammate and accompanied his skipper for a 21-run partnership before the southpaw fell to Sam Curran as Jonny Bairstow caught him for just 4 runs off 6 deliveries.

Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat and remained unbeaten at 13 off just 7 deliveries before rain interrupted the Indian innings and the payers were forced back to the dugout.

Skipper Rohit seemed to be in fine form before rain played spoilsport as the captain led from the front with 37 runs off his willow and stood unbeaten when the umpire asked for the groundsmen to bring the covers out to protect the playing surface from the rain.
