Neeraj Chopra to Skip Paris Diamond League Ahead of Olympics 2024 – News18

Olympic and world champion Neeraj Chopra is set to sit out the Paris leg of the Diamond League ahead of the Olympic games slated to be held in the French capital city.

The Indian ace is likely to give the Diamond League round in France a pass as he isn’t required to participate in the event as the man with the golden arm looks to defend his Olympic Gold in Paris when the event gets underway in a month’s time.

Chopra, who has gone from strength to strength ever since he brought the nation high accolades with his incredible performances in Tokyo to clinch the yellow metal in the quadrennial pinnacle of sports, is probably focused on the showpiece in Paris and does not want to exert himself too much with the Olympic games looming large on the horizon.

He gave the Ostrava meet earlier in the year a miss citing an adductor strain and opted to play it safe during the crucial year.

He returned to action at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, where he managed to clinch the gold medal with a best throw of 85.97m at Turku.

The javelin thrower from Khandra will also look to breach the coveted 90m mark at the showpiece as he sets out to retain the yellow metal he sealed in Japan and defend his crown.

He had a brilliant campaign last year around too as he claimed the gold at the World Championships and also sealed the top spot in the Asian Games. He also clinched the Commonwealth Games gold in the previous year as he cemented his legacy with each passing tournament.
