3 T20 World Cup 2024 Winners Who’re Set To Play For India In T20I Series Against Zimbabwe – News18

Yashasvi Jaiswal was part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team.

After winning the T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados, the Indian men’s cricket team will face Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series that starts on Saturday (July 6) in Harare.

India beat South Africa by seven runs in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Saturday (June 29) to end the 11-year wait for an ICC title. The Rohit Sharma-led side successfully managed to defend the total of 176 runs in the final played at Kensington Oval in Barbados by restricting the Proteas to 169 for 8 in 20 overs. After securing a hard-fought win over the Aiden Markram-led side, the Indian men’s cricket team will next face Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series that starts on July 6 in Harare. However, for the shortest format series in the African nation, Men in Blue will have a fresh team, which will be led by Shubman Gill.

The 24-year-old Gill, who was one of the four reserve players for the T20 World Cup 2024, will captain the Indian team for the first time in his career. The 15-member team picked for the five T20Is includes the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has led India in the past, along with a few new faces like Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, and Tushar Deshpande. The Shubman Gill-led side will also have three players from India’s T20 World Cup 2024 winning team, who will have added motivation to do well.

Ahead of the start of the India-Zimbabwe T20I series in Harare on Saturday (July 6), here’s a look at the three T20 World Cup 2024 winners who are part of the Indian team for the five-match tour.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: 22-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal was part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup-winning team. The star left-handed opening batter, who has 502 runs to his name in 17 T20Is played so far, however, didn’t get a chance to play any matches in the T20 World Cup. The Rajasthan Royals batsman, who made his T20I debut for India in August 20c23 against the West Indies, will be the favorite to open the innings against Zimbabwe, along with Shubman Gill.

Sanju Samson: Like Jaiswal, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson also didn’t get a chance to play any matches in the T20 World Cup 2024. The 29-year-old Kerala-based cricketer, who was in red-hot form for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2024, will be India’s first-choice wicketkeeper for the Zimbabwe series in the absence of Rishabh Pant. In 25 T20Is played so far, Samson has 374 runs to his name.

Shivam Dube: All-rounder Shivam Dube played in all eight matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 for India and scored 133 runs. He was initially not picked in the 15-member squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe but was named as a replacement for Nitish Kumar Reddy, who will miss the upcoming bilateral series due to an injury. Dube didn’t get a chance to bowl in any of the eight matches of the T20 World Cup 2024 for India, but in the absence of Hardik Pandya, he can be seen bowling in Zimbabwe T20Is.
