After leading India to 2024 T20 World Cup, captain Rohit Sharma announced he’s retiring from the format.

Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh penned a heartfelt note as the India superstar drew curtains on his T20I career in style. India scripted history by becoming the first unbeaten team to win a T20 World Cup.

Rohit bid farewell to the shortest format after securing his 50th T20I win as a captain as India defeated South Africa in a thrilling final in Barbados.

It was a dream T20 World Cup campaign for India with Rohit finishing as their leading run-getter. He aggregated 257 runs at an average of 36.71 and strike-rate of 156.70.

As a captain too Rohit was at his best.

After the final, Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is during an interaction with the media.

Ritika has shared a special note for the World Cup-winning skipper.

“I know what this has meant to you. This format, this cup, these men, this journey and this entire process of getting what you’ve always dreamed of. I know how hard these last few months have been for you. I know the toll it’s taken on your heart, mind and body but watching you achieve your dream was incredibly emotional and inspiring,” she wrote on Instagram, sharing a picture of Rohit with the trophy.

Ritika was expectedly emotional on Rohit’s retirement.

“As your wife, I am immensely proud of what you’ve achieved and the impact you’ve had on this game and the people who love it; but as someone who loves your game I’m sad to see you leave any part of it behind. I know you’ve thought long and hard about what’s best for this team but that doesn’t make watching you leave that part of it behind any easier,” Ritika added.

Before Rohit, Virat Kohli had revealed that it was his last T20I match as he wants the youngster to take over the baton. And on Sunday, allrounder Ravindra Jadeja also drew curtains on his T20I career.

Rohit “That was my last game as well. Honestly, I have enjoyed it since the time I started playing this format. There is no better time to say goodbye to this format. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted to do, win the Cup and say goodbye.”

Since making his T20I debut in September 2007, Rohit Sharma has featured in 159 matches and registered 4231 runs including five centuries and 32 fifties. He was part of the MS Dhoni-led Indian side which beat Pakistan to clinch the inaugural T20 World Cup title.
