Sakshi had stated in her book that people close to Phogat and Bajrang Punia had started polluting their minds, but Vinesh said that she did not agree with Sakshi’s claims and expressed that she would continue to fight for the community.

Former Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat responded to fellow grappler Sakshi Malik’s claim that people close to Phogat and Bajrang Punia had started polluting their minds with greed, and the grapplers’ decision to accept the exemption took a toll on the image of the protest.

The trio of Vinesh, Sakshi and Punia spearheaded the wrestlers’ protest against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over sexual harassment of women wrestlers during his tenure.

Vinesh said that she did not agree with Sakshi’s claims and expressed that she would continue to fight for justice.

“That is her personal opinion. I don’t agree with that,” the 30-year-old said.

“Unless I am weak, the fight cannot be weak. This is my belief. Till the time Sakshi, Vinesh and Bajrang are alive, the fight cannot be weak,” said Vinesh.

“Those who want to win should never be weak. They should always choose to fight on the field. For that, you will have to be tough and face the obstacles. And we are ready for a fight,” she continued.

Vinesh recently moved into politics following the heartbreak of Paris 2024, where she was disqualified from the championship clash of her event after failing to make weight on the day of the gold-medal bout, opined that the protest at Jantar Mantar was for the women’s community.

“When we were playing, the responsibility of crores of people of the country was on us. Today I am elected (as MLA) from Congress party … even today the whole nation is looking at us,” she said.

“But we can assure you that the fight we fought on the streets and up to Olympics is for all daughters and sisters and for all women who know how to fight and want to fight. Farmers, youth and athletes are the foundation of our country. We will fight till we are alive.”
