2012 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico
Las Vegas, NV — The Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes comes our way this Friday, May 18th from Pimlico, scene of the Preakness Stakes that will be run Saturday. Three year old fillies will race 1 1/8 miles on Pimlico’s main track in search of their share of the $300,000 purse.
A typically strong field of nine entries will take part in race 10 on Pimlico’s Friday card with a post time of 4:46 PM EDT. Let’s take a look at all of the entries and the recent performances that brought them to this Grade 2 event.
Mamma Kimbo – Bob Baffert trainee Mamma Kimbo has only two starts to her credit and has won both – the last being an impressive win at the Grade 2 Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park on April 11th. She broke maiden on February 18th at Santa Anita and is just another in a long line of impressive Bob Baffert trainees that is on top of her game.
In Lingerie – very impressive Todd Pletcher trained filly that led wire to wire in the Grade 3 Bourbonette Stakes at Turfway last time out and won by six lengths. Before that was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Gulfstream on February 25th. This impressive filly broke maiden in her only other start at Turfway on January 14th. Both her victories have come on Polytrack however.
Welcome Guest – has one win and a second place finish in three career starts – last time out was an impressive second to Broadway`s Alibi in the Grade 3 Comely Stakes at Aqueduct. In a pair of Maiden Special Weight races prior, Welcome Guest had a win and a second but has yet to race around two turns.
Disposablepleasure – Disposablepleasure had been very impressive win at the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct in November but has struggled since – a fourth in the Grade 2 Davona Dale and a third in the Grade 2 Fair Ground Oaks last time out. The Todd Pletcher trained filly has two wins, a second and a third in six career starts.

Wildcat’s Smile – won her only start of 2012 – an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Aqueduct on April 20th and has placed in every race of her seven career races – three wins, three seconds and a third place finish. Among the more impressive results is a second in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes in November and a win at the New York Breeders` Futurity in October.
Zucchini Flower – had a two race win streak (the Limit Stakes at Aqueduct and a Maiden Special Weight at Laurel Park) snapped with a fourth last time out in the Inside Information Stakes at Belmont on April 28th. In six career starts she has two wins and a second place finish.
Glinda the Good – has been successful in 2012 against lesser competition – a win last time out in the Instant Racing Stakes at Oaklawn, a second in the Sunland Park Oaks and another win in the Island Fashion Stakes. Glinda the Good is running well and is certainly under the radar at 12/1.
Plum – is the only Maryland-bred filly in the field and has won four of her last five starts. Last time out was a win on this track on April 26th in an Allowance Optional Claiming race. Before that was a sixth in the Busher Stakes at Aqueduct on February 25th.
Oaks Lily – was an alternate entry for the Kentucky Oaks. Oaks Lily broke maiden last time out at Keeneland and before that was second in the OBS Championship (Filly Division) Stakes. She has two other third place finishes in eight career starts and appears outclassed in this race.
