Ballerina Stakes 2014 at Hastings Racecourse
Las Vegas, NV – Hastings Racecourse in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia will be the scene of the Grade 3 Ballerina Stakes on Monday, October 13 – Thanksgiving Day in Canada. A purse of $100,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares three years old and upward willing to go 1 1/8 miles on Hastings’ main track.
Seven older females will take to the track in the Ballerina Stakes – race 5 on Hastings Holiday Monday card. Post time is 3:50 PM. Let’s take a peek into the past performances of all seven entries for this Grade 3 stakes
Ole’s Miss – has placed in all nine career starts for trainer Tracy McCarthy – four wins and two seconds in six starts this year. Her wins this year include three minor stakes on this track – the British Columbia Oaks last time out at this distance as 2-1 favorite September 14, the Emerald Downs Handicap in June and the Ross McLeod Stakes in May with another win in the minor Kent Handicap at Emerald Downs July 19. She has been incredibly competitive heading into her graded stakes debut, will race against older entries for the first time and will leave from gate 3 with Amadeo Perez aboard.
Locket – defending fourth place finisher in this race is coming off a nice win by 3 3/4 lengths at 9-1 odds in the minor Delta Colleen Handicap on this track September 14 after a second in an Allowance August 18 and another second in the minor British Columbia Cup Distaff August 4. She has 20 career starts with three wins, six seconds and three third place finishes – one win, three seconds and a third place finish in seven starts this year. She enters in good form with Keishan Balgobin in the irons from post 2.
Madame Pele – three time stakes winner has 22 career starts for trainer Jim Penney with five wins, four seconds and three third place finishes – nine starts this year have produced three wins and a second place finish. She is coming off a nice win in the minor Pegasus Training Center Stakes at Emerald Downs September 7 after consecutive fourths on that same track – the Boeing Handicap and the Washington State Legislators Handicap. She makes her graded stakes debut Monday with Frank Perez Fuentes in the saddle from the rail.

Madeira Park – defending champion in this race will make just her second graded stakes start Monday for trainer David Forster. Last time out was a third as 3-5 favorite in the minor Delta Colleen Handicap September 14 after a three race win streak – an Allowance Optional Claiming August 29, an Allowance August 3 and in the minor Monashee Handicap in July. She will try to repeat in this race and enters in good form. Madeira Park will depart from post 4 Monday with Rico Walcott in the irons.
Wando Woman – defending runner up in this race has one win and two seconds in six starts this year – all of those results in her last four starts. Last time out was a second in the minor Delta Colleen Handicap on this track September 14 after a fourth in the minor Emerald Distaff Handicap, a nice win in the minor British Columbia Cup Distaff Handicap August 4 and a second in the minor Monashee Handicap in July. She enters in the best form of her career from gate 5 with Richard Harvey Hamel in the reins.
Touching Promise – defending third place finisher in this race has 19 career starts with just two wins, two seconds and five third place finishes. She has just one win in the last 15 months – an Allowance on this track in August. Last time out was a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming September 27 after a fourth in the minor Delta Colleen Handicap September 14. She looks overmatched in this one as she leaves from post 6 with Mario Gutierrez guiding her.
Saturday Nite Ride – finished eighth in this race last year but had a three race win streak at Northlands Park this past spring including the minor John Patrick Handicap June 6, the minor Wild Rose Handicap in May and an Allowance Optional Claiming two weeks prior to that. She is coming off a fifth in the minor Delta Colleen Handicap September 14 on this track after a second in the minor City of Edmonton Distaff August 15.
