Beverly Hills Handicap at Hollywood Park
Las Vegas, NV – Betfair Hollywood Park is the scene for the Grade 3 Beverly Hills Handicap this Saturday, June 23rd. Horses three years old and upward will race 1 ¼ miles on Hollywood Park’s turf track in search of their share of the $100,000 purse.
The Beverly Hills Handicap has drawn a small but quality group of six for race 8 on Hollywood Park’s Sunday’s card. Post time is 4:40 PM. Here is a look at all six entries and the past performances that brought them to this Grade 3 event.
Capital Plan – most recently finished a close third in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes on this track on May 28th. She broke through in a big way in her stakes debut before that result with a win in the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap after a pair of seconds in Allowance races. She has four wins, two seconds and a third place finish in 11 career starts. Joel Rosario will get the mount for the Beverly Hills Handicap.
Cambina – won the Grade 1 American Oaks Stakes on this track over this distance last July but hasn’t been the same since. Cambina finished fifth last time out in the Grade 1 Gamely to follow up an impressive second in the Grade 2 Santa Barbara Handicap to Capital Plan – her only real result in a while. Cambina had a sixth in the Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes a fifth in the Grade 2 Buena Vista Handicap and an eighth place finish at the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf since her win in last year’s edition of this race. Cambina figures to be Capital Plan’s biggest challenge in this race.
Camille C – has not tasted victory in 16 races but hopes to change things around on Sunday. Recently she has been racing minor stakes competition and having OK results. In her last three starts Camille C has a second in the Irish O’Brien Stakes at Santa Anita, a fourth in the B. Thoughtful Stakes here on April 28th and a decent third last time out in the Fran’s Valentine Stakes on this track on May 20th.

Imperialistic Diva – won an Allowance Optional Claiming race at Hollywood in December but followed that up with a sixth in the Megahertz Stakes, a second in an Allowance and a seventh in the American Beauty Stakes. Her last two results have been inconsistent as well – a disappointing eighth in the Grade 3 Wilshire Handicap here was followed by a good win in an Allowance Optional Claiming here on May 31st. Trainer Simon Callahan will be looking for his second Beverly Hills Handicap in three years.
Slane Castle – has just one win and two third place finishes in 13 career starts. In four starts in 2012, a third in an Allowance was her best result.
Quaintly – has had two starts in the US after a decent career overseas. Those two starts resulted in a second in an Allowance Optional Claiming in her debut and a second last time out in the Round Table Stakes here on May 13th.
