BFC to honour Moncler CEO Remo Ruffini with Trailblazer Award
TFA, organised by the BFC, are the primary fundraiser for the BFC Foundation and celebrate the role of fashion at the intersection of culture and entertainment, spotlighting creative talent and telling the stories of the year in fashion. Ruffini will be recognised for his pioneering leadership and creative vision in guiding Moncler through disruptive ideas like the Moncler Genius platform.
Remo Ruffini, chairman, CEO, and creative director of Moncler, will receive the Trailblazer Award at The Fashion Awards 2024 for his groundbreaking leadership and vision.
Ruffini transformed Moncler into a luxury brand and pioneered the Moncler Genius platform, fostering global collaborations.
The award will be presented at Royal Albert Hall on December 2.
In 2003, Ruffini took over the helm of Moncler, a legendary brand which originally specialised in down jackets. In his role, Ruffini undertook a global brand reset that elevated Moncler to a luxury positioning while always remaining faithful to its roots and heritage. With his ability to constantly push boundaries and a unique talent for brand vision, Ruffini soon put in place an integrated strategy that combines business acumen with a constantly evolving creative sensitivity. This approach cemented Moncler’s international success, leading the company to be listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in 2013 after just a decade. In addition, Ruffini’s acquisition of Stone Island in 2021 marked another significant step in Moncler’s evolution, creating the Moncler Group, the BFC said in a press release.
In February 2018, Ruffini launched Moncler Genius which redefined the brand’s cultural relevance in the digital era, introducing constant dialogue and engagement with new and bigger communities through pioneering collaborations including Craig Green, Jonathan Anderson, Richard Quinn and Simone Rocha. Since then, Moncler Genius has evolved into a platform for co-creation, teaming up with partners from multiple industries – spanning art, design, entertainment, music, sport and culture and bringing a new energy and meaning to the world of luxury. Most recently in October 2024, Moncler presented “The City of Genius” in Shanghai, an immersive experience of creativity, culture and energy that closed Shanghai Fashion Week. This activation, featuring an impressive designer lineup, including Edward Enninful, Hiroshi Fujiwara, Donald Glover, Lulu Li, Mercedes-Benz by Nigo, Palm Angels, A$AP Rocky, Willow Smith – as well as special appearances from Rick Owens and Jil Sander, once again showcased Moncler’s dynamic partnerships with global talent, while setting a new benchmark for fashion collaborations.
“We are thrilled to honour Remo Ruffini with the Trailblazer Award for his immense contributions to the fashion industry and continued commitment to championing British design talent on a global stage. Ruffini has reimagined Moncler’s approach, building a brand that wholeheartedly embraces creativity, innovation and collaboration across disciplines, ultimately setting a new standard for the luxury industry entirely. His work with Moncler Genius exemplifies the pioneering spirit at the very core of this award and we are so excited to celebrate with him in December,” Caroline Rush, chief executive, British Fashion Council, said.
The Trailblazer Award celebrates the very best innovators and creatives in fashion, whose work in the past year has significantly shaped the industry.
“Creativity lives where dreams meet energy. This is how we build our creative vision in Moncler, in a constant pursuit of the extraordinary. I’m grateful to the brilliant minds – both within and beyond the company – who’ve joined us on this journey, and am excited for those yet to come, each sharing their unique “genius” in shaping our creative journey together,” Ruffini said.
This accolade builds on the ‘Business Leader’ award presented to Remo Ruffini at The Fashion Awards in December 2019.
