Britons issued summer holiday warning as European destination faces ‘highly dangerous’ threat
Britons have been given a new warning about the European holiday destination Montenegro.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) gave holidaymakers some information on wildfires. These are uncontrolled fires that burn in the wildland vegetation.
People flock to Montenegro to experience its fine cuisine, stunning beaches, incredible natural beauty and diversity of experiences, from exploring old cities to mountain biking.
However, while Montenegro provides a great holiday destination, Britons have been warned that wildfires are a very real risk.
‘Wildfires are common in Montenegro from April to October’

The FCDO said: “Wildfires are common in Montenegro from April to October due to the dry and hot weather. Wildfires are highly dangerous and unpredictable.”
Holidaymakers were told to “take care” when visiting or driving through the countryside. They must also ensure that cigarette ends are properly extinguished.
Britons should not light fires or barbecues except in areas that are designated and marked. They should also ensure they do not leave rubbish around.
The FCDO said: “If you see a wildfire, call the emergency services on 112. Follow any advice from the police or local authorities.”
This comes as Britons were given a similar travel warning for Albania, where wildfires are also common.
In its extreme weather and natural disasters advice, the FCDO also provided guidance on flooding and earthquakes in Montenegro.
Flooding
The FCDO said: “Flooding can be a problem when there is heavy rain and snow melts, causing rivers to flood in winter and spring.
“Monitor media reports and follow the advice of the local authorities if flooding occurs in your area.”

Earthquakes
British holidaymakers were told: “Montenegro lies in a seismically active zone and small tremors are recorded throughout the year.
“Serious earthquakes are less frequent but do happen. The last serious earthquake was in 1979.
“The US Federal Emergency Management Agency’s website tells you about what to do before, during and after an earthquake.”
In other travel news, Britons have been given a holiday warning as protests may break out in a popular African destination.
