Celine Dion details near fatal move she made to power through performance

Céline Dion recalled that she went to dangerous lengths to continue performing amid her serious health woes.

Dion, who sharing a candid in-depth look at her fight against Stiff Person Syndrome in the emotional new documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, told People Magazine about the time she took too much dosage of muscle relaxers.

“We started with two milligrams to see if it would help, and then 2.5, and then 3, and 15 and 50,” Dion, who had her SPS diagnosis in August of 2022, said of taking Valium and how with time the effect of the drug started wearing off quickly.

She added that at one point she took 90 milligrams of Valium to power through a performance.

“It could have been fatal. I did not question the level because I don’t know medicine,” she continued. “I thought it was going to be okay. It worked for a few days, for a few weeks, and then it doesn’t work anymore.”

The My Heart Will Go On singer added that she “did not understand that I could have gone to bed and stopped breathing. And you learn — you learn through your mistakes.”

The legendary musician explained that she has been “as professional as can be’ and “disciplined” her whole life to keep her voice in “top shape” and never took a drug without prescription.

However, today, the singer is “very, very happy and fortunate” to be here and share the lessons she has learnt.
