Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland
Las Vegas, NV – Keeneland in Lexington Kentucky is open for business once again starting this weekend. One highlight of opening weekend is the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes on Friday, October 5. Two year old fillies will go 1 1/16 miles on Keeneland’s main track in search of their share of the very nice $400,000 purse and an automatic bid into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita November 2.
The Darley Alcibiades has attracted a full field of 14 with two Also Eligible’s for race 9 on Keeneland’s Friday card. Post time is 5:21 PM. Let’s look at all of the entries and what brought them to this wide open Grade 1 event.
Gold Edge – is the one graded stakes winner in the field and is undefeated in three career starts. Last time out was a win at the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes to follow a win in the Lisa M Stakes after breaking maiden in her debut at Churchill Downs June 24. The Lon Wiggins filly is the most decorated entry and the one to watch Friday.
Rose to Gold – arrives from Calder after two stakes wins in two career starts – the Brave Raj Stakes by 13 1/2 lengths on September 15 and the Lindsay Frolic Stakes by 13 lengths on August 25. She has been the best juvenile at Calder by a mile and steps up on Saturday against slightly better competition.
Speedinthruthecity – Peter Miller trained filly finished third last time out in the Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes to follow a second to Executiveprivilege in the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes. She also finished second in the Landaluce Stakes after a maiden win in her debut. Speedinthruthecity is a threat in the Darley Alcibiades having placed in all four career starts.
Almost an Angel – has just a win and a second in four career starts with a seventh last time out in the Grade 2 With Anticipation Stakes for trainer Wesley Ward. Not all that exciting until you realize that two of her four starts were against males. Back in her own company and widely experienced against faster horses Almost an Angel could be competitive.
Tara From the Cape – Todd Pletcher pupil broke maiden in her career debut and followed that with a win in the Thomas Greene Memorial Stakes at Delaware Park August 2. Last time out was a third in the P.C. Johnson Stakes August 29.
Broken Spell – started her career with a seventh, an eighth and a fifth before finally breaking maiden August 19 at Saratoga. Lat time out was a very nice second ahead of Tara From the Cape in the P.G. Johnson Stakes August 29.

Fully Living – Kelly McPeek filly broke maiden in her debut then finished fourth in the Grade 3 Schuylerville. Her last two starts have produced a third in the Grade 2 Adirondack behind Kauai Katie and a second last time out in the Meadow Star Stakes.
La Song – has placed In all three career starts and after breaking maiden two back finished second in the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes behind Gold Edge.
Dancinginthecircle – finished third last time out in the Arlington-Washington behind two of her Darley Alcibiades competitors after breaking maiden in her only other start July 29.
Spring in the Air – most recently finished a very good second in the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine September 15 to follow a second in the Shady Well Stakes and a Maiden Special Weight score at Woodbine August 4.
Pure Indy – broke maiden in her career debut at Del Mar September 1 and followed that with a fifth in her only other start at the Barretts Debutante Stakes at Fairplex Park September 15.
Kitten`s Dumplings – most recently finished fourth in the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes to follow a Maiden Special Weight score in her only other start at Saratoga August 12.
Skyfall – finished a distant seventh last time out in the P.G. Johnson Stakes at Saratoga after breaking maiden in her debut at Saratoga August 5.
Magical Moon – broke maiden last time out in her second career start after a fifth in her debut of trainer Albert M. Stall.
Daar Zayed and Cloudy Vow are alternate entries to the race both coming off Maiden Special Weight scores.
