Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park
Las Vegas, NV – The Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, June 30th and features horses three years old that are willing to go 1 1/8 miles on Belmont Park‘s main track. The Dwyer is the second of the graded stakes races at Belmont on Saturday with a purse of $200,000 on the line.
The Dwyer has attracted a very good group of seven three year olds – some of which took part in at least one of the Triple Crown races this year. It is race 10 on Belmont’s Saturday card with a post time of 5:38 PM. Here is a glimpse into the past performances of the seven and what we can expect on Saturday.
Teeth of the Dog – most recently won the minor Easy Goer Stakes on this track on June 9th to follow up a respectable fifth in the Preakness. Before that she finished a decent third in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes at Aqueduct on April 7th after racing and placing in a trio of Maiden Special Weight races at Santa Anita. The Michael Matz pupil has been good and is the favorite in the Dwyer.
Zetterholm – had a three race win streak going into the Preakness – all at Aqueduct with the last being the Patsyprospect Stakes on April 6th. He finished an impressive fourth in the Preakness and has to be on the radar for the Dwyer.
Unstoppable U – made only his third career start in the Belmont Stakes where he finished a respectable sixth after a couple of wins including an Allowance Optional Claiming race on this track on April 27th. He may not be the biggest name in the race but he is certainly worthy of some consideration.
Guyana Star Dweej – took a huge step up in competition most recently but finished 11th in the Belmont Stakes. Before the Belmont he had a streak of five straight placings – a win and four seconds in Maiden Special Weight races.

Morgan’s Guerrilla – Morgan’s Guerillas has raced five times in 2012 with one win at a Maiden Special Weight race at Aqueduct on March 3rd and three seconds – the Grade 2 Illinois Derby on April 7th, a Maiden Special Weight race at Gulfstream on February 11th and an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Churchill Downs. His last graded stakes action resulted in a disappointing 11th at the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes at Keeneland.
Monarchic – has yet to run in a stakes race but is coming off two straight wins on turf – an Allowance last time out and a Maiden Special Weight at Churchill Downs on May 4th.
Fast Falcon – made his stakes debut most recently and finished second in the Easy Goer Stakes to Teeth of the Dog here on June 9th. His other three starts, all Maiden Special Weight races resulted in a win on May 11th, a sixth and a seventh.
