Talented Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan will seek redemption when she features at this year’s Summer Olympics in Paris. Competing in the women’s 10m air rifle event, Elavenil failed to produce anything significant in her Olympics debut in Tokyo. She could not make it to the final, finishing 16th in the qualification round. Elavenil might have failed on the big stage but her records in the national tournaments are impressive. She gained interest in the sport after winning a medal at a school-level shooting event.

Elavenil became a professional shooter in 2014 and enrolled herself in the Guns for Glory (GFG) Academy which was opened by Olympic bronze medalist Gagan Narang. She clinched her first gold medal with a score of 249.8 at the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney.

A year later, Elavenil found herself at the top of the world rankings and earned direct qualification for the Tokyo Olympics. She also defended her Junior World Cup title that year in Suhl. Her first senior-level medal came in the form of gold at the 2019 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. Elavenil replicated the success in the team event with Divyansh Panwarthe 2021 edition in New Delhi.
