A wax figure of England goalkeeper Mary Earps has been unveiled at the Madame Tussauds. It marks a historic achievement for Earps, who has become the first female footballer to have her statue at the iconic wax museum in London.

The Paris Saint Germain star was chosen via public vote where it was asked which England women’s player should have her sculpture at Madame Tussauds. To discuss the collaboration, the museum had been in talks with Earps for more than a year. The official launch finally took place on Sunday, November 10.

Earps was a key component of the England squad that finished as the runners-up in the 2023 Women’s World Cup. The wax statue shows the 31-year-old in her green kit that she wears while playing for the national team. The statue will be open for public display at the Madame Tussauds Baker Street site from this Friday, November 15.

Earps, along with his family and some friends, attended the launch event at Madame Tussauds. The Nottingham-born goalkeeper was elated to become part of history. Keeping aside her individual feat, Earps considers it a win for the entire women’s football fraternity across the globe.

“To make this mark as the first female footballer to have a figure at Madame Tussauds London is incredibly special. This is not about me. This is a representation of how women’s football has grown, and the trajectory it’s on,” Earps told the media personnel, as per ESPN.

“Seeing my friends, family, and fans’ reactions to the figure is absolutely amazing, they couldn’t believe how accurate the features are – neither can I if I’m honest. My gran especially is amazed by it all and I’m so happy she gets to share this moment with me,” she added.

Steve Blackburn, the general manager at Madame Tussauds London, was glad to have the first-ever wax figure of a female footballer at the museum. “Mary is a pioneer both on and off the pitch who has inspired millions with her exceptional talent and dedication. It is an honour to celebrate her achievements with her first-ever figure,” he said.

Following her performance at the World Cup, Mary Earps was placed fifth in the 2023 Ballon d’Or Feminin award rankings. She was also named the Women’s Player of the Year by England Football earlier this year.
