Yuzvendra Chahal hasn’t played for India since August 2023 and with T20 World Cup just two months away, he’ll be hoping for a fruitful IPL 2024 to set his claim for international comeback.

Legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal has made a fine start to his IPL season playing a vital role in Rajasthan Royals’ three wins in as many games. Chahal has taken six wickets thus far and is currently at the second spot in the list of highest run-getters behind Mustafizur Rahman of Chennai Super Kings.

The 33-year-old was in the thick of action at the Wankhede Stadium as he finished with a three-wicket haul to limit Mumbai Indians to 125/9 in 20 overs.

After MI were reduced to 20/4 in just 3.3 overs thanks to a dazzling spell from Trent Boult who sent back three MI batters for golden ducks, the hosts were recovering through captain Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma with the duo lifting the score to 76/4.

Enter Chahal and he broke the partnership with the wicket of Pandya on 34 before also accounting for Tilak.

The experienced spinner will be eyeing a fruitful season in hopes of making his India comeback considering that the T20 World Cup starts right after the end of IPL 2024.

However, RR bowling coach Shane Bond feels that the best way for Chahal to ensure he has a good IPL is to forget that there’s a world cup

“The competition is pretty tough, so one of the real challenges for any bowler coming into this tournament is to forget that there is a World Cup, and you start bowling to get into a World Cup team,” Bond told reporters on Monday.

“If your team is successful, you are in a winning team, selections and rewards come from that. That has more of been our focus, to forget about all that other noise from the outside and just work really hard for each other. If we do that, I have got no doubt people are going to start talking like you are now about Chahal and whether he will feature in a World Cup or not. He is bowling beautifully, and if he keeps doing that, then we have got a massive chance in this tournament,” he added.

Chahal last played an international game for India in August 2023.
