Students at Government College University Lahore will not be able to choose clothing of their own following the varsity administration’s announcement of a “dress code” banning jeans and T-shirts on campus.

As per the notification issued by the university, male students are now required to wear dress pants and shirts whereas females have been directed to “observe simplicity” and are only allowed to wear cotton dresses.

The dress code, as per the GCU website, will apply to both male and female students enrolled in undergraduate and post graduate programmes.

The notification, as per The News, mandates that all male and female students comply with the new guidelines, which are introduced as part of a wider effort to promote discipline and preserve decorum within the institution

Underscoring that the students were expected to dress up decently, the varsity has warned that failure to comply with the dress code might also result in penalisation.

“Students not dressed up properly can be checked by any proctor within university bounds and will be fined,” reads the instructions on the university’s website.
