Gulfstream Park Oaks 2014 Contenders & Odds
Las Vegas, NV – The Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Oaks, a major prep for the Kentucky Oaks in May is on tap from a very busy Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Florida on Saturday, March 29. Three year old fillies will take to Gulfstream’s main track and go 1 1/8 miles for the winner’s share of the $300,000 purse and the 100 qualifying points toward the Kentucky Oaks in May.
The Gulfstream Oaks has attracted a field of eight three year old fillies to go in race 6 in Gulfstream’s packed Saturday card. Post time is 2:20 PM. Here is a look into the past performances of all eight entries for this Grade 2 stakes – only two of which have recorded a stakes win.
Joint Return – John Servis trained filly races in graded stakes company for the first time Saturday but enters in very good form – four career starts with three wins and a third place finish. Last time out was a 4 1/2 length win in the minor Busher Stakes at Aqueduct February 1 after a pair of wins at Parx this past winter and a third in her debut – a MSW also at Parx in October. She has won three straight in impressive fashion, is one of the two stakes winners lining up Saturday and is the one to watch Saturday. She leaves from post 4 with regular rider Kendrick Carmouche in the saddle.
In Tune – Todd Pletcher trained filly has just two career starts and they were both good ones – a maiden score by 6 1/2 lengths in her debut here January 12 was followed by an Allowance Optional Claiming score just ahead of Camille Claudel also on this track February 27. She has yet to trail in a race and is expected to challenge Saturday. Javier Castellano gets the call from post 6.
Camille Claudel – makes her graded stakes debut Saturday but does have one minor stakes start under her belt – a sixth in the Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct January 4. That result came after she broke maiden in her second career start by an astounding 19 lengths. Last time out was a decent second behind In Tune at 47-1 odds in an Allowance Optional Claiming on this track February 27. She breaks from the 3-hole with Forest Boyce aboard.
Whomping Willow – Dale Romans trained filly started her career with six MSW races finally breaking maiden in her sixth such race – on this track by almost five lengths February 16. She finished second to In Tune in one of those MSW races January 12. Last time out she made her stakes debut and finished a respectable second in the overnight Any Limit Stakes here March. Corey Lanerie gets the mount from gate 5.

Penwith – Kiaran McLaughlin trained filly finished third behind Stopchargingmaria after setting the pace in the Grade 2 Demoiselle at Aqueduct November 30 and followed that with an Allowance Optional Claiming score on this track January 2. Last time out was an OK fourth, 14 lengths back in the Grade 2 Davona Dale Stakes here February 22. Penwith has two wins and a third place finish in five career starts and has looked OK the past four months. Luis Saez will ride from post 2.
House Rules – has five career starts for trainer Allen Jerkins and finally broke maiden by 5 3/4 lengths here January 17 in her fourth. This after a second December 19, a seventh and a sixth respectively in his first two career starts. Last time out House Rules officially arrived on the scene for trainer H. Allen Jenkins with a very good second behind Aurelia’s Belle in the Grade 2 Davona Dale on this track February 22. House Rules starts from the outside post with Alex Solis aboard.
America – legendary trainer Bill Mott will send out America who broke maiden in her second start – at Belmont Park October 9 and went on to a fifth in the Grade 2 Demoiselle Stakes at Aqueduct November 30 and another fifth last time out in the Grade 3 Herecomesthebride Stakes on grass March 2. She has placed in just one of four starts thus far and hopes to get on track Saturday. America will have John Velazquez in the saddle from the rail.
Holiday Magic – has eight career starts – the highlight being a win in the minor Brave Raj Stakes at Calder in September – one of two career wins that she has. She had a third in the OBS Championship Stakes at Ocala Training Center January 21 after an eighth in the Juvenile Filly Sprint on this track November 9 and an OK third in the My Dear Girl Stakes at Calder in October. Last time out was a disappointing last of eight in her graded stakes debut the – Grade 2 Davona Dale on this track February 22.
