Axar Patel revealed an interesting insight. He highlighted that the Indian fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah does his own planning before each game and the bowling coach does not interfere in the matter.
Jasprit Bumrah has been a key component of the Indian team featuring in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup. The fast-bowling maestro once again stepped up with a match-winning spell in the Super Eight opener against Afghanistan on June 20. Bumrah scalped three wickets while giving away just seven runs in his four overs. After India notched a 47-run win in Barbados, Axar Patel spoke highly of Bumrah at the post-match event.
According to the spin-bowling all-rounder, Bumrah is someone who likes to follow his strategy and the other members of the squad respect that. Even India’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey doesn’t interfere much, providing Bumrah with a space to chalk out his in-game plans independently.
“I don’t think anyone talks much about Bumrah’s bowling He has an idea of what to do and what not to do. So I think when it is going so well, I don’t think the bowling coach is giving so much input that there is some confusion in his mind. He just says that you are doing well, whatever thinking you are doing is also going well. As much as I have seen, the bowling coach doesn’t interfere much. He says during planning that whatever your mindset is, it is clear, so just execute your plans,” Axar Patel said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Axar further branded Jasprit Bumrah as a “world-class bowler” and highlighted his impact, saying, “You know that with the quality of bowlers we have on our side – we can get out of a tough situation.”
Variation has been the main highlight of Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling in this T20 World Cup. When struggling to pick wickets with quicker deliveries, Bumrah cuts down the pace to baffle the opposition batters. This strategy was also on display on the sluggish Barbados surface.
Bumrah took the wickets of both Afghanistan openers– Rahamanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai with the new ball. He was brought back into the attack in the 15th over and dismissed experienced all-rounder Mohammad Nabi.
Besides taking wickets, Bumrah has also been quite economical in the shortest format. He has conceded less than seven runs in a spell in eight consecutive T20 World Cup matches including the Super Eight fixture against Afghanistan.
