Holi 2024: Pre and Post Holi Skincare Rituals You Can’t Miss! – News18
Holi will be celebrated on March 25.
Holi 2024: Everyone’s skin reacts differently to colors, so it’s essential to listen to your skin and give it the care it needs
Keeping your skin glowing amidst the colours of Holi requires some extra care and attention due to the potential for skin irritation from the colours. Dr Deepak Jakhar, Consultant Dermatologist, Dermosphere Clinic shares some natural ways to protect and rejuvenate your skin during and after Holi:
Pre-Holi Care
- Oil MassageApply coconut oil, olive oil, or almond oil all over your body before stepping out to play Holi. This creates a protective barrier on your skin and makes it easier to remove the colours later.
- Nail CareApply a thick layer of nail polish to prevent the colors from seeping into your nails.
- SunscreenApply adequate quantity of sunscreen on the exposed areas to prevent tanning and sunburn
During Holi
- Cover UpWear clothes that cover most of your skin to minimize direct contact with colors.
- Use Natural ColorsOpt for natural, herbal colors made from flowers and herbs rather than chemical-laden ones. In case of any skin irritation, immediately rinse of the color.
- Stay HydratedDrink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated from the inside out.
Post-Holi Care
- Gentle CleansingUse a mild, pH-balanced cleanser to remove the colors from your skin. Avoid harsh soaps or scrubbing vigorously, as this can irritate the skin further.
- Homemade ScrubsPrepare a gentle homemade scrub using natural ingredients like gram flour (besan), yogurt, and honey to exfoliate your skin and remove stubborn color stains. Use these scrubs gently and avoid any vigorous scrubbing. Do a test patch of these scrubs to avoid any skin reaction
- MoisturizeApply a soothing and moisturizing lotion or cream after cleansing to replenish lost moisture and soothe any irritation.
- Cool CompressIf your skin feels irritated or inflamed, apply a cool compress using a cloth soaked in cold water or rose water to calm the skin.
- Aloe Vera GelApply pure aloe vera gel to any areas of redness or irritation. Aloe vera has soothing and healing properties that can help reduce inflammation and promote skin repair. Remember, some patient might be allergic to aloe vera.
- Healthy DietEat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and antioxidants to nourish your skin from within and promote healing.
- Stay Sun-SafeAfter Holi, avoid direct sunlight for a few days, as your skin may be more sensitive to UV rays due to the exposure to colors.
Remember, everyone’s skin reacts differently to colors, so it’s essential to listen to your skin and give it the care it needs. People with sensitive skin, should take extra precautions while playing holi. If you experience any severe reactions or allergies, consult a dermatologist for professional advice and treatment.
