Honorable Miss Handicap 2013 at Saratoga Race Course
Las Vegas, NV – Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York will be the scene of the Grade 2 Honorable Miss Handicap this Monday, July 29. A purse of $200,000 will be on the line for fillies and mares three years old and upward willing to dash six furlongs on Saratoga’s dirt track.
A field of seven older females will line up in the Honorable Miss – race 8 on Saratoga’s Monday schedule. Post time is 4:47 PM. Here is a brief look into the past performances of all seven entries for this Grade 2 stakes.
Dance to Bristol – has finished with first or second in 15 of her 16 career starts. She enters on a five race win streak including the Grade 3 Bed o’ Roses Handicap at Belmont Park in her graded stakes debut, the minor Skipat Stakes by 4 3/4 lengths at Pimlico May 17 and the minor Sugar Maple Stakes by nine lengths with a Beyer Speed figure of 106 at Charles Town April 20 after a couple of Allowance Optional Claiming scores at Laurel Park this year. She has been competitive in every career with eight wins (five stakes wins) in 16 career starts and showed that a step up in competition wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. With her score in the Bed o’ Roses she is the 5-2 favorite in the Honorable Miss
Burban – won three of her first four starts but finished a disappointing sixth in her graded stakes debut -the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream March 17. She followed that with a nice win in the minor Break Through Stakes at Aqueduct April 4 and went on to a very respectable second in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs May 4. Last time out was another nice win in the minor Roxelana Stakes June 22 after a pedestrian fourth in the Grade 3 Winning Colors Stakes at Churchill Downs May 27. Her recent success has opened a few eyes – enough to make her the 3-1 second choice this Monday.
Glorious View – Bill Mott trained filly raced in stakes company for the first time May 18 and continued her roll by winning the Grade 2 Vagrancy Handicap at Belmont Park after 11 career starts yielded three wins – all of which came in her three starts prior to the Vagrancy – all over six furlongs and all at Aqueduct. That makes four wins in 12 career starts and a four race win streak coming into the Honorable Miss. Needless to say – she is in the best form of her career and she should be a threat this Monday. Glorious View sits at 4-1 on the morning line.

Livi Makenzie – last raced in graded stakes company in August 2012 when she finished fifth in the Grade 1 Prioress Stakes but concentrated on Allowance Optional Claiming races before a win last time out in the minor Saylorville Stakes at Prairie Meadows June 28. That followed a win in May at Churchill Downs and a pair of seconds. Her best career result graded stakes came in the Grade 2 Beaumont in April of last year when she finished third. Livi Makenzie has 17 career starts for trainer Ron Moquett with five wins, five seconds and three third place finishes and enters the Honorable Miss having placed in all six of her starts in 2013 and is the co-fourth choice at 5-1 odds.
Munnings Sister – made her graded stakes debut February 10 and finished seventh in the Grade 2 Hurricane Bertie Stakes after nine career starts yielded four wins and a third place finish with a disappointing ninth in the minor Safely Kept Stakes at Laurel Park and a sixth in the Imperial Gesture Stakes at Belmont Park October 24 to close out 2012. She enters on a two race win streak however – in the minor Gold Prince Stakes at Belmont Park April 28 and the Smart and Fancy Stakes also at Belmont Park June 13.
Classic Point – Allen Jerkins trained filly races in staked company for the first time Monday but enters on a two race win streak – an Allowance Optional Claiming last time out at Belmont Park June 30 after a Starter Optional Claiming score on that same track two weeks earlier. She has four wins in 16 career starts and takes a huge step up in competition Monday.
Promise Me a Cat – has 21 career starts for trainer Carlos Martin with just four wins – the last coming December 6 in an Allowance Optional Claiming at Aqueduct. She has six starts in 2013 with a second and five third place finishes. She is coming off a pair of thirds in minor stakes action – the Magnolia Jackson Stakes last time out and the Blue Sparkler Stakes before that. This after a second in the minor Break Through Stakes at Aqueduct in April. She has placed in her last eight starts and will be looking for her first ever graded stakes score Monday but is the longest shot in the field at 20-1 odds.
