Gambhir took to social media platform X, to share a touching video tribute, where he narrates a moving letter he had written for the franchise and the city as a final goodbye to the franchise.

The time has arrived as Indian cricket gears up for yet another dose of Gambhir yet again. The fiery former World Cup winner has taken up the position of India’s new head coach.

With the new role comes newer responsibilities. But, Gambhir is not one to forget his roots, as the new Indian head coach posted an emotional tribute to his beloved Kolkata Knight Riders, whom he led and mentored to title success in the past.

Gambhir shares a deep connection with KKR and Eden Gardens. He was the first captain to lead the team to twin IPL title wins in 2012 and 2014. He returned to the franchise for the 2024 edition as a mentor and inspired the team to lift the trophy for the third time under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.

Gambhir took to social media platform X, to share a touching video tribute, where he narrates a moving letter he had written for the franchise and the city as a final goodbye to the franchise.

“I smile when you smile, I cry when you cry, I win when you win, I lose when you lose. I believe with you, and I have become you. I am you Kolkata. I am just one of you,” states Gambhir.

“We are a bond, a story, a team. But, the time has come to create legacies together, to write  bigger and bolder scripts. Scripts not in purple ink but in blue, the treasured India blue.

“We promise each other to never walk alone. It will all be shoulder-to-shoulder, hand-in-hand, all for the tricolour. It will all be about our India,” Gambhir reinstated.

The former India opener will take over the reins of Rahul Dravid whose extended tenure ended with the T20I World Cup 2024 triumph in the Caribbean. Gambhir’s coaching stint begins with India’s tour of Sri Lanka later this month.

Gambhir was part of the 2011 World Cup winning squad and produced a crucial 97-run knock in the summit clash of the ICC showpiece on home soil to bring home the coveted title after a prolonged wait of nearly three decades.

With all the requisites for the high-profile job at his disposal, the 42-year-old is set to play a pivotal role in commandeering the Indian unit in years to come.
