Ravichandran Ashwin needs six more wickets to create a rare feat in the World Test Championship.
With the Border-Gavaskar Trophy set to be underway tomorrow, India’s experienced spin-bowler, Ravichandran Ashwin finds himself on the brink of history yet again with yet another stellar record just within his reach.
The 38-year-old cricketer already leads the all-time wicket-taking charts in the World Test Championship (WTC) but the spinner needs six more wickets to become the first bowler in WTC history to reach the 200-wicket milestone.

Ashwin currently sits at the top of the all-time wicket-taking charts in the WTC with 194 wickets from 40 games with an average of 21.32 and an economy of 2.83. Not too far behind him is his Australian rival, Nathan Lyon with 187 wickets from 43 games as well.
The Australian skipper, Pat Cummins is the most successful pacer of all time in the WTC with 175 wickets as well in the third spot on the wicket-taking charts.
It remains to be seen if India will count on Ashwin for the upcoming Australia tour. The side is in a bit of a conundrum with the absence of Rohit Sharma and possibly Shubman Gill not taking part in the series-opener at Perth. India could look to play people like Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar to extend India’s batting options.
But in Ashwin’s defence, he is India’s most successful bowler in Australian conditions. In the 10 Tests he played Down Under, he has taken a total of 39 wickets at an average of 42.15.
It would come as no surprise if India looked to deploy Ashwin as the lone spinner depending on the conditions as well. The veteran has proven to be a handy batter down the order as well having scored 14 half-centuries and six tons in the 105 Tests he has been a part of.
Ashwin’s experience is priceless as India would hope to fit him into the playing 11 for the opening Test against Australia in Perth where the Indian unit begin their hunt for a third consecutive series victory on Australian soil.
