Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud continued his brilliance with the red ball, picking up a second consecutive 5-wicket haul in Test cricket. After pocketing the prized scalps of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant on the opening day of the Chennai Test, the 24-year-old dismissed Jasprit Bumrah on Friday morning to not only complete his fifer but also bundle out India for 376.
Mahmud became the first Bangladesh pacer to pick up a five-wicket haul in India. In fact, he is also the first visiting Asian seamer to bag a Test fifer on Indian soil since Yasir Arafat in 2007. The right-arm quick joined the likes of Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the list of Bangladesh bowlers to get a five-wicket haul against India in the longest format of the game.

This was the instance when the Bangladesh pacers picked up the most number of wickets in a Test innings against India. While Hasan returned 5 for 83 in 22.2 overs, Taskin Ahmed (3/55) picked up three wickets while Nahid Rana (1/82) scalped a wicket.
Meanwhile, overnight batsman Ravichandran Ashwin made 113 as India posted 376 all out on day two. A 199-run seventh-wicket stand between Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who hit 86, led the hosts’ fightback.
Earlier on Thursday, Hasan grabbed the spotlight with a three-wicket burst in the first session, which rocked India’s star-studded top-order. Considering the batters he dismissed in only his fourth Test, one would have expected the quality pacer to celebrate it appropriately. But he restricted it to just a few high-fives and hand-shakes with his colleagues.
“I don’t really celebrate and there’s no real reason why. You could say that if I celebrate after taking a wicket, it will make the batter feel more upset so that’s why I don’t celebrate,” Hasan told the press after the end of the first day’s play.
“I’m just happy. When you take their wickets, who are the best right now, naturally one would be happy,” he added.
