IPL Playoffs Race After CSK vs PBKS: Punjab Kings Rise to 6th Place, as Chennai Super Kings Stay Put at 4th – News18

Harpreet Brar also got two crucial wickets, that of Rahane and Dube (BCCI)

With their win today, Punjab Kings tip over Gujarat Titans to take up sixth place in the table, while Chennai Super Kings remain static at fourth.

A disappointing outing for the hosts, yet a glimmer of hope for the visitors today at Chepauk, as Punjab Kings nabbed a much-needed 7-wicket win against the Chennai Super Kings today, to still linger in the mix to make the playoffs.

A strong batting performance from PBKS surely led their way to an easy win, but it was all the magic woven by the spin duo of Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar that made all the difference for the Punjab Kings today.

After a strong start from CSK, it was Brar and Chahar who completely choked the life out of the hosts’ batting order to help constrict them to a fairly low target.

With their win, PBKS creep up to 7th place, above the likes of Gujarat Titans, with whom they are tied on points with at 8 points each, but possess a better NRR.

Punjab can also possibly creep up to 6th with a win next, as DC hold an advantage over them due to the mere fact that they have played a game more and possess one extra win. But, the NRR favours PBKS and hence, a move up to 6th is possible.

A lot hinges on the result of the SRH vs RR game tomorrow as well, as the Hyderbad side holds the key to hope for both the winning and losing sides today.

A loss for SRH tomorrow will mean that CSK will still remain above the franchise in 5th place, where they are situated currently, due to the NRR. This will keep them in close contention to break into the top four.

The loss for SRH will also spell good news for PBKS, who with a couple more wins under their belt, can push above the Sunrisers too possible to make way into a possible top-four fight.

With fixtures against both CSK and SRH still remaining for PBKS, this makes for an interesting fight for the playoff spots as the season reaches its end.
