India batter Jemimah Rodrigues may have picked up a possible wrist injury after helping the Brisbane Heat beat Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League match on Friday making her availability for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia doubtful.

Thanks to Rodrigues’ knock of 43 in 30 deliveries she helped set the tone for Brisbane’s chase and then retired hurt after the 10th over of the innings.

A report from PTI suggests that she may have aggravated an injury on her wrist that was picked up earlier when she looked to save a boundary when on the field. She had landed awkwardly on the joint during the dive.

Even while batting she had her wrist taped up but the discomfort increased as she spent more time in the middle batting and eventually retired herself out after the drinks break.

For the Heat, Georgia Redmayne continued where Rodrigues left off and scored 51 runs as she helped complete the chase and secure the spot in the final.

Now the Brisbane Heat will take on the Melbourne Renegades in the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground set to be played on Sunday.

But Rodrigues’ availability for the final and the Australia ODI series remains in doubt. She has been named in the squad that will play three ODIs against the Australia Women’s team which will be played on December 5 at Brisbane, December 8 at Brisbane as well and the final ODI at Perth on December 11.

Rodrigues is a crucial member in the Indian batting unit where his skills have been put to use in the middle-order. Her presence will be crucial against the dominant Australian unit which will be a tough challenge to get past. It will be interesting to see how the Indian team manage to fill the gap should Rodrigues not take part in the contest.

Ahead of the ODI series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India along with the Indian women’s team’s skipper Harmanrpeet Kaur unveiled a new ODI jersey for the team. They will don the new kit during the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies.
