Kuldeep Yadav predicted Spain as winner of EURO 2024 and even got the scoreline of the final right against England.
Indian cricketer Kuldeep Yadav was in Berlin on Sunday to attend the EURO 2024 final between England and Spain. Ahead of the kick-off at the Olympiastadion, Kuldeep was asked to predict the winners. He hailed the two finalists for putting up a dominant performance throughout the tournament. “Both teams are playing really well at the moment. Spain has been really well throughout the tournament. If they play the way they have played all the games, I think they can easily get past England. But, you know the final is always tough,” Kuldeep was heard saying in a video shared by Sony Sports Network on X (formerly Twitter).
Since his response seemed a bit “diplomatic”, the interviewer asked Kuldeep Yadav which team he would like to see become the European Champions. That’s when the T20 World Cup champion admitted, “Yes, I am supporting Spain. I think they will go past England and win 2-1.” His prediction was spot-on as Spain defeated England 2-1 in Berlin to secure their record fourth EURO title.
Sharing a clip of his interview, Sony Sports Network wrote on X, “One champion predicts another. Kuldeep Yadav was on point at the EURO 2024 Final.”
Both teams initially looked cautious during the final clash as the scoreline remained goalless in the first half. Niko Williams broke the deadlock for Spain moments after the second-half whistle. Cole Palmer scored the equaliser for England in the 73rd minute. Only four minutes were left of the regulation time when Mikel Oyarzabal struck the winner to seal the deal for Spain.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav is currently enjoying a holiday after lifting the T20 World Cup title last month. He was a key member of the Indian team that defeated South Africa in a thrilling final in Barbados. Kuldeep featured in five matches in the ICC tournament and scalped a total of 10 wickets. His best performance came in a Super Eight match against Bangladesh. Kuldeep picked up three wickets while giving away only 19 runs in his four overs.
The 29-year-old chinaman has been rested from the ongoing Zimbabwe tour where Shubman Gill is leading a young squad. Kuldeep is expected to return to action in the upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lanka, slated to begin on July 27.
