Union Home Minister and senior BJP leader Amit Shah has expressed confidence that the Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) will form the government in Maharashtra in the upcoming elections, while setting a long-term goal for the party to establish a solo BJP government in the state by 2029.

Addressing BJP workers during his two-day visit to Mumbai, Shah emphasised the importance of discarding any pessimism and ignoring survey results, urging them to focus on the upcoming elections.

Shah declared that the BJP’s recent track record of consecutive victories proves that a government’s success hinges on its work. “We formed the government for three consecutive terms at the national level. Now, shake off your despair and disregard any survey results. Mahayuti will undoubtedly form the government this year, and by 2029, BJP will be capable of forming a government on its own,” he told the party cadre.

Shah said the Mahayuti’s victory in Maharashtra is as certain as “a line drawn on stone”. He went on to say that once the alliance comes to power, no one will be able to stop the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. Shah highlighted that Maharashtra is a crucial battleground for the BJP, noting that the upcoming elections will significantly impact the country’s future direction.

“For the first time in 60 years, a leader — Prime Minister Narendra Modi — has created a record by forming a government for three consecutive terms. The Maharashtra elections are critical in shaping the nation’s destiny, and I am confident that the Mahayuti will win. The voter turnout must increase in Maharashtra to secure a landslide victory,” Shah said. He added that no other political party has the power to stop the Mahayuti in Maharashtra.

Shah reiterated that the BJP is not a party driven by mere desire to govern but one focused on implementing its ideological principles. He cited landmark achievements like the construction of the Ram Temple and the abrogation of Article 370 as examples of BJP’s commitment to its ideology. “We didn’t come to power just to rule. The BJP came to power to carry out tasks like building the Ram Temple and removing Article 370. After winning the elections in Maharashtra, we will also implement the Uniform Civil Code,” Shah asserted.

He also lauded Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, describing him as capable of resolving the state’s issues. Highlighting the BJP’s achievements at the national level, Shah said, “Under Modi’s leadership, India has crushed terrorism and Naxalism in the last 10 years. Today, Indians stand tall with pride on the global stage.”

A key part of Shah’s address focused on strengthening the party’s ground-level organisation. He called for increasing voter turnout by 10 per cent, particularly by addressing any dissatisfaction among local leaders. “Make sure every booth has 10 dedicated workers. From Dussehra to the end of the campaign, these workers should stay active in their assigned areas, reaching out to voters who align with our ideology. Ensure that at least 20 people in each booth become BJP members. Once they join, they’ll understand the importance of voting for us,” he instructed.

Shah also analysed the performance of the opposition during previous elections, revealing that of six key constituencies, the BJP had secured a majority in five assembly segments, with the opposition winning only one. “This means we will win six constituencies, and the opposition will only win one. The Maharashtra BJP unit should implement its strategies effectively at the mandal and ward levels. Victory will be ours,” Shah said.

The home minister’s speech underscored his grassroots connect as he shared his personal journey from a party worker to national president. “I’ve come up from the grassroots, so when I interact with party workers, it gives me immense joy. Some elections have the power to change the course of the nation’s politics. Based on my experience, I can tell you that the Maharashtra elections will change the direction and dynamics of Indian politics. No political party in recent times has won three consecutive terms,” he concluded.

Shah’s visit has galvanised BJP workers in Maharashtra, setting the tone for an aggressive and focused campaign in the state assembly elections. With the promise of Mahayuti’s immediate victory and the ambitious goal of single-party rule by 2029, the BJP seems determined to dominate the political landscape in Maharashtra.
