Manchester United interim coach Ruud Van Nistelooy left the English side following the arrival of Ruben Amorim on Monday.
Van Nistelrooy, a United legend, stepped up to take the helm of the Red Devils following the termination of former boss Erik Ten Hag and managed to remain unbeaten in his four outings across all competitions.
The Dutchman had expressed interest in working as Amorim’s assistant, however, the Portuguese gaffer reportedly wants to work with his own group of technical staff.
United released a statement thanking Van Nistelrooy for his services to the club during an uncertain period.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy and three first-team coaches have departed the club with our best wishes for the future. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to United,” the statement by United read.
Van Nistelrooy expressed his delight in having managed his former club for the brief period.
“I really enjoyed it, it’s been a short but amazing period,” Van Nistelrooy said.
“We are in an uncertain position but we tried to do our jobs and help the club, which is important,” the Dutchman added.
Van Nistelrooy took charge of United in the club’s EFL cup game against Leicester City and kicked things off with a dominating 5-2 win over the Foxes. He managed a 1-1 draw against Chelsea in the Premier League before continuing his fine form with a 2-0 triumph over Greek side PAOK in the UEFA Europa League. The Dutchman signed off with a 3-0 win over Leicester yet again, this time in the PL.
Amorim, who led Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon to two domestic league titles in his four-year tenure with the capital city club, arrived in Manchester on Monday following his appointment as the club’s permanent boss.
The 39-year-old Portuguese manager helped Sporting end a 19-year wait for the league title and would look to emulate his fine showings on English shores.
