Marvel has unveiled the first trailer for “Agatha All Along,” the forthcoming spinoff of the Disney+ series “WandaVision.” The series features Kathryn Hahn reprising her role as Agatha Harkness, with Jac Schaeffer, the head writer of “WandaVision,” returning as executive producer and head writer for the spinoff. Variety initially reported the development of this Marvel series in October 2021.

According to the official logline, “The infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road.”

The cast includes Aubrey Plaza as the witch Rio Vidal, Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, Patti LuPone as the 450-year-old witch Lilia Calderu, Sasheer Zamata as the sorceress Jennifer Kale, as well as Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp. The trailer mixes genres, starting as a hardboiled murder mystery with Hahn’s Agatha investigating Wanda’s dead body, following her apparent death in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” The trailer then shifts to scenes of witchcraft and chaos, as Agatha reconnects with old sorceress allies to regain her powers.

In “WandaVision,” Hahn’s character was first introduced as Agnes, the nosy neighbor of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) in Westview. She later reveals herself as Agatha, a centuries-old witch. The “WandaVision” finale sees an epic battle between Agatha and Wanda, ending with Wanda trapping Agatha in her fake persona as Agnes.

The series had several working titles before settling on “Agatha All Along,” including “Agatha: House of Harkness,” “Coven of Chaos,” “Darkhold Diaries,” and “The Lying Witch With Great Wardrobe.” The song “Agatha All Along,” written by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, became an internet sensation following its debut in the seventh episode of “WandaVision.” While its return for the spinoff has not been confirmed, the Oscar-winning songwriters discussed the inspiration behind the melody with Variety.
