Pooran came to bat at No. 3 for the West Indies in the first T20I against South Africa, and he scored 65 runs from just 26 balls with the help of two fours and seven sixes.

Nicholas Pooran was on fire for the West Indies on Friday (August 23) during the first T20I of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa. In the match played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, the left-handed wicketkeeper-batter came out to bat at No. 3 and remained unbeaten on 65 runs from just 26 balls. During his stay at the crease, he smashed two fours and seven sixes.

His attacking knock helped the Men in Maroon chase down the target of 175 runs in 17.5 overs for the loss of three wickets and get the better of the Aiden Markram-led side by seven wickets.

By smacking seven sixes during the series opener in Tarouba, Pooran has taken his tally of sixes to 139 in 96 T20Is played so far, which is the third most for any batter in T20Is. He leapfrogged Australia’s Glenn Maxwell (134), India’s Suryakumar Yadav (136), and England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler (137) to take the No. 3 position.

The overall record for hitting most sixes in T20Is is held by Indian captain Rohit Sharma. The 37-year-old right-handed batter who led India to the T20 World Cup 2024 title win this year finished his 17-year-long T20I career with 205 sixes in 159 matches. He is the first and only batter in the world to complete a double century of sixes in T20Is.

Rohit is followed by New Zealand opener Martin Guptill. The Kiwi star has 173 sixes to his name in 122 matches.

On the list of batters with the most sixes in T20s, Nooran is in the No. 5 position. He has 537 sixes to his name in 352 T20 matches played so far. The overall record for most sixes in T20s is held by Chris Gayle. The former West Indies captain and opening batter finished his career with 1056 maximums in 463 matches.

Gayle is followed by Kieron Pollard (877), Andre Russell (704), and Colin Munro (548) of New Zealand.

Pooran, who was one of the top performers for the West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2024, will again take the field for the Rovman Powell-led side on Sunday (August 25) during the second T20I, which will also be played at the Brian Lara Stadium.
