Sanjay Manjrekar suggested that Gautam Gambhir can be the ‘clinical’ difference the Indian cricket needs presently.

Team India has already set sail for a new journey gearing up for the Test series against Bangladesh, the former Indian cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar reveals his take on what to expect with Gambhir as the Head Coach of the side.

Speaking in an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Manjrekar believes that he can be the difference which makes the Indian cricket team ruthless and become more dominant on all fronts like the legendary teams of the old.

“I’ve known him for the past 3-4 years he’s worked with us before. He’s a guy who reads the game well. One of those few people who can be clinical about Indian cricket and not so emotional,” Manjrekar commented.

Gambhir has always been one that has grabbed the headlines. But Manjrekar believes that we could see a change from his public persona to help him during his time as the coach of the national team. He also is curious to see how the Gambhir-Rohit relationship turns out as well.

He shared, “You know what we see of Gambhir is the public persona, as a player and as an expert in television. Now when he gets into the team as a coach, I’m sure somewhere he will change his ways a little bit, and think differently plus that relationship between captain and coach is such a private thing. You have no idea how the both of them are going to evolve with this relationship together”.

As far as the dynamics between the captain and coach are concerned. Manjrekar wishes to see how the team is selected in the future which could be an indicator of how things go between the captain and the coach.

“I think you will get an idea of their dynamics with the kind of selections that they make and not so much from the results,” he concluded.
