The absence of video repays on Tour came to the fore after a controversial incident during Jack Draper’s clash against Felix Auger-Aliassime in Cincinnati and the 24-time Grand Slam winner called for use of the technology at such junctures in the sport.

Novak Djokovic ripped into the lack of video referrals in the sport after a controversial point during the Cincinnati Open game between Jack Draper and Felix Auger-Aliassime became a talking point.

The video review system is largely absent from ATP Tour events and came to the fore as a ball hit Draper’s racquet and then the floor before bouncing over the net to secure the match point in favour of the Brit. Despite Auger-Aliassime’s protests, the umpire awarded the point to Draper, causing an uproar.

Following the dispute, Djokovic took to social media to express his opinion on the topic of video referrals.

“It’s embarrassing that we don’t have video replay of these kind of situations on the court,” Djokovic’s post read.

“What’s even more ridiculous is that we don’t have the rule in place that would allow chair umpires to change the original call based on the video review that happens off the court,” the 24-time Grand Slam winner continued.

“Everyone who watches TV sees what happened on the replay, yet the players on the court are kept in the ‘dark’ not knowing what’s the outcome,” he added.

“We have Hawkeye for line calls, we live in the technologically advanced 21st century! Please respective Tours, make sure this nonsense never happens again,” the Paris Olympics gold medallist’s update read.
