Old Hat Stakes 2015 at Gulfstream Park
Las Vegas, NV – The Grade 3 Old Hat Stakes is on tap for this Saturday, January 3 from Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Three year old fillies will take to Gulfstream’s dirt track and dash six furlongs for a purse of $100,000.
A field of eight three year old fillies will take part in the Old Hat Stakes – race 4 on Gulfstream`s Saturday schedule. Post time is 2:07 PM. Here is a peek into the past performances of all eight combatants for this Grade 3 stakes.
Fashion Alert – highly regarded Todd Pletcher trained filly has three career starts and two wins but is coming off by far her worst career outing – a sixth in the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland October 3. She won her debut – the Astoria Stakes by 4 3/4 lengths at Belmont Park June 14 and followed that with a terrific win as 1-5 favorite in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes by 1 1/2 lengths at Saratoga July 18. She will be looking for a strong bounce back Saturday when she leaves from the rail with John Velazquez in the saddle.
Ekati’s Phaeton – William Kaplan trainee is coming of a close second in the minor House Party Stakes at Gulfstream Park West November 29, a sixth in the minor Our Dear Peggy Stakes on grass in October and consecutive wins – a MSW and an incredible 10 1/4 length Allowance score with a terrific 90 Beyer Speed Figure on this track this past summer. She steps into graded stakes company for the first time Saturday looking to rediscover her early-career form on a Gulfstream dirt track she’s never been touched on. Ekati’s Phaeton has looked very good in preparation and will have Luis Saez will be in the irons from post 7.
Concealedwithakiss – Edward Plesa trained filly has two wins and a third place finish in four career starts. She started her career with consecutive wins – the best being the minor Sorority Stakes at Monmouth Park in August and went on to a disappointing thirteenth in the minor Selima Stakes on grass at Laurel Park September 27. Last time out was an OK third behind Ekati’s Phaeton in the minor House Party Stakes at Gulfstream Park West November 29. She makes her graded stakes debut in decent form Saturday with Paco Lopez aboard from post 5.
Temper Mint Patty – will race for the fifth time for trainer Dale Romans having recorded two wins and a second place finish in four starts. Last time out was her only off-the-board finish – a fifth in the Grade 3 Delta Downs Princess Stakes November 22 after a second in the minor Maid of the Mist Stakes at Belmont Park in October and consecutive wins – the best of which was the minor Joseph A. Gimma Stakes at Belmont Park in September. She has been competitive virtually every time out and hopes to be again with Corey Lanerie in the saddle from post 6.

R Sassy Lass – enters this weekend on a nice two race win streak – the minor Sandpiper Stakes last time out December 6 at Tampa Bay followed a Maiden Claiming score on this track in September and a seventh in her stakes debut – the minor Florida Sire Susan`s Girl Stakes here September 6. She has a win and a third place finish in three starts on this track and hopes to build on that with Rafael Manuel Hernandez aboard from post 3.
Little Miss Julia – will race in stakes company for the first time Saturday having raced two MSW so far. Last time out was a win in gate-to-wire fashion – on this track December 17 after a fourth in her debut at Gulfstream Park West November 29. Javier Castellano has been tabbed to ride in her stakes debut – from gate 4.
Slava – will race for the seventh time for trainer Gennadi Dorochenko – the second time in graded stakes company. She is coming off an ugly twelfth in the Grade 1 Daley Alcibiades at Keeneland in October after a third in an Allowance Optional Claiming September 14 and a seventh in her stakes debut – the minor PG Johnson Stakes August 27. Before that were a second in an Allowance and a maiden score in her second career race. She has placed in just one of her last three starts and will be looking to hit the board for the first time in stakes company. Oriel Chavez rides from post 2.
Jamie’s Dancer – Barry Rose trained filly has an astounding 15 starts already with just one win, three seconds and four third place finishes. She broke maiden in August on this track but has failed to place in her last six starts overall. Not much is expected when she leaves from the outside post with Luca Panici aboard.
