On 25 August 2019, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a stunning spell, claiming five wickets for just seven runs. His performance was pivotal in India’s 318-run victory over the West Indies in Antigua, marking their largest win by runs.

Jasprit Bumrah came up with a magical performance against West Indies on this day (August 25) in 2019 to earn an emphatic win for India. The Indian speedster scripted sensational figures of 5/7 in the second innings to secure a resounding 318-run victory in Antigua in the World Test Championship (WTC). This is also India’s biggest away in Test cricket.

Bumrah’s lethal bowling saw West Indies fold for a total of 100 in the second innings of the Test. With this, Bumrah emerged as the first bowler from Asia to register a five-wicket haul in Australia, England, South Africa and the West Indies. The right-arm pacer achieved this feat only in his 11th Test.

The emphatic victory helped India earn a 1-0 lead in the two-match series in their inaugural WTC fixture.

Batting first India posted a total of 297. While Kemar Roach picked up four wickets, it was Ajinkya Rahane who emerged as India’s highest scorer in the first innings with a fine knock of 81.

The Caribbean side, in response, reached 222. Ishant Sharma registered a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Mohammad Shami and Ravindra Jadeja bagged two wickets each for India.

Jasprit Bumrah claimed a single wicket in the first innings having dismissed Darren Bravo for 18.

Team India had set West Indies a target of 419 having declared their second innings on 343 at the loss of seven wickets. Ajinkya Rahane once again excelled with the bat having breached the three-digit mark in the second innings.

Hanuma Vihari supported Rahane ably but missed out on his century by just seven runs. The then India skipper Virat Kohli also came up with a vital knock of 51 in the second innings. Roston Chase earned four wickets for the hosts in the second innings.

In their second innings, West Indies had a nightmarish start having lost their five wickets with a score of just 15.

The Caribbean side, eventually, managed to last for 26.5 overs. Thanks to Kemar Roach’s crucial knock of 38 off 31 balls, West Indies succeeded in posting a three-digit total in the second innings. Roach’s power-packed knock comprised five maximums and a solitary boundary.

Jasprit Bumrah finished the game with five wickets under his belt in the second innings. Ishant Sharma also proved to be a menace for the opposition batting line-up. Ishant scalped three West Indies wickets having conceded 31 runs in his 9.5 overs.
