Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam triggered the collapse with the prized scalps of Pakistan captain Shan Masood and star batter Babar Azam for a duck.
Masood, who got caught behind in the 7th over, was seen engaging in a heated discussion with the umpires following his dismissal and appeared visibly upset and was observed exchanging words with the officials after being given out.
Shoriful’s delivery, pitched on a back of a length, generated a steep bounce, causing Masood to attempt a defensive push towards mid-off. Bangladeshi players’ appealed thinking he had nicked it, but the umpire ruled in favour of Massod.
Convinced that Masood had edged the ball to the keeper, Bangladesh’s captain, Najmul Hossain, opted for a review. The decision proved to be spot-on, as the ultra-edge technology revealed a clear deflection.
Shan, visibly upset, engaged in a heated discussion with the umpire, insisting that the ball had only made contact with his pads and that the technology had erred.
Umpire Richard Kettleborough, however, firmly instructed him to continue his walk back to the pavilion. Shan, clearly displeased with the outcome, departed the field in a state of frustration.
Pakistan entered the Test with four fast bowlers in an all-pace attack with no frontline spinner while Bangladesh included three pacers and two spinners.
The two-match series is part of the nine-team World Test championship with Pakistan currently sixth in the standings and Bangladesh eighth.
