Princess Kate’s Wimbledon appearance carries touch of sadness

Kate is currently undergoing chemotherapy for cancer

Kensington Palace announced on Saturday morning that Kate would be attending the Wimbledon Men’s final.

Royal expert Charles Rae shared on GB News that Princess Kate’s appearance at the event carries a “sad” element. The palace confirmed she would be present for the showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

Kate is currently undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and made a brief public return during last month’s Trooping the Colour.

Rae told Dawn Neesom he is delighted at the revelation, but the fact Kate is not present at the woman’s final is “sad” news.

“It’s fantastic news that she is going to be at the men’s final tomorrow”, he said.

“I suspect on Monday morning we are going to see pictures of Catherine in the newspapers on Monday rather than the tennis players.

“There was a lot of speculation and people were hoping she would be there but now we’ve had it confirmed.

“She will present the trophies like she did last year. The sad thing is, she won’t be there today for the women’s final.

“We’ll get to see her tomorrow, which is the main thing, and best of luck to her. Clearly her recovery is going on and taking time, but it’s nice to see her out and about.”

In a statement released last month, Kate revealed she was making good progress but was “not out of the woods yet” and had “good days and bad days” as she continued her treatment.

She missed a charity polo match on Friday where her husband, the Prince of Wales, took to the field to raise funds for good causes.

Kate paid tribute to Sir Andy Murray earlier during the tennis tournament, saying he should be “so very proud” after he missed out on a final match at Wimbledon.

In a personally-signed message on social media, Kate wrote: “An incredible #Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud @andy_murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.”
