Sabrina Carpenter reveals rare insight into Espresso

Sabrina Carpenter got candid about the creative process that led to her chart-topping hit Espresso in a recent interview.

The Feather singer revealed that her trip to a crêperie in France inspired the catchy lyrics of the song which she also credits her team of people that she “love[s] making music with.”

While crediting her co-songwriters Steph Jones, Amy Allen, and Julian Bunetta, she admitted to The Guardian that, it’s “the only way those borderline idiotic-slash-funniest lyrics can happen.”

The 25-year-old singer also opened up about her feelings while writing the hit song Espresso. She revealed that she wrote the song as a “manifestation tactic” because she did not have any romantic attention at the time. “I didn’t have anyone I was even talking to,” she added.

The Sue Me singer joked that she’s “always been a bit delusional, in that sense,” hinting at possible manifestations coming to fruition with on and off beau Barry Keoghan.

It should not escape notice that Espresso became her first top-five hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in the U.K., Ireland and Australia. Moreover, its viral status earned it 1 billion streams on Spotify.

Addressing her newfound fame, The Girl Meets World actress told the outlet that she is “interested” in the newfound success at the charts but it’s not the reason she writes music.

Carpenter added that fame is merely “sprinkles on top of the sundae” and never the reason she’ll ever write music.
