KT Rama Rao was summoned by the Telangana State Women’s Commission to its Hyderabad office over his “break dance” comments about women made last week
A scuffle broke out between women workers of the BRS and Congress parties on Saturday when KT Rama Rao (KTR), Telangana’s former minister, visited the Women’s Commission office in Hyderabad after being summoned over his “break dance” remarks.
KTR, who is also the working president of BRS, arrived at the Women’s Commission office, but Mahila Congress workers began protesting in front of his vehicle, demanding an apology for his comments. The Congress women insisted that KTR should apologise for his remarks about women.

The Commission had previously issued a notice to KTR, asking him to appear in person on August 24.
The BRS leader faced controversy over his comments last week about the free bus travel scheme introduced by the Congress-led Telangana government for women. He suggested that women using the scheme could “break dance” or record dance videos. His remarks drew significant backlash from various groups, who deemed them “dismissive and insensitive.”
In response to the criticism, KTR, on August 16, issued an apology on social media, stating, “I am sorry if our women sisters were offended by the usual comments made in the party meeting yesterday. I never meant to offend my sisters.”
The Maha Lakshmi Scheme, which provides free travel for women, girls, and transgender persons on state-run buses, was a major poll promise and is believed to have contributed to the Congress’s victory in last year’s assembly elections.
